Winter guard tryouts will be held in the band room on Monday, November 15th from 3:30-5:30, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 6:30-8:30; auditions will be held on November 22nd from 3:30 until.

Winter guard is an indoor performing arts activity that utilizes the flags, rifles, sabers and dance traditionally associated with marching bands and drum corps and puts them in an indoor setting. “It is basically a carryover of color guard into the winter,” said director Joey Rackley.

This activity combines the beauty and pageantry of dance, the drama of theater, and the precision of marching band into one production. Winter guard will perform and compete in various competitions in school gyms all across the state.

Joey Rackley, director of the winter guard, encourages everyone to try out. “To be in winter guard you need to be able to move,” commented Rackley. “I want a small and elite team this year of the best dancers and performers in the school,” added Rackley.

Greene Central High School has not had a winter guard team since 2003, so Rackley encourages everyone to take this opportunity to try out.

“Winter guard is a lot of fun, but is also is a lot of work,” says Rackley. Winter guard will practice on weekends at the National Guard Armory in Snow Hill.
