Rasheem Shackleford- Varsity Football

    Junior, Rasheem Shackleford is the winner of the 2010 Football Ram Pride Award.
    Ram Pride awards are given to the athletes who show great amounts of school spirit, support their team, and put forth effort to take on leadership.
    "Winning the Football Ram Pride award feels good! It shows that I supported the rams by coming to the varsity team, and never gave up." says Shackleford.
    Shackleford has been playing football for 4 years and continues to play his senior year!

    When asked what he thought was most essential to the team and upcoming players he said "Stay committed, try your best and don't ever give up even when you feel down. Take control and show a strong sense of leadership!"
    Shackleford is currently enrolled in Physical Science, Weightlifting, Geometry, and English 11.
    He plans to graduate and possibly go in to engineering.
    He enjoys playing Football, Basketball, Ultimate Frisbee and Hanging out with his friends!
    Shackleford is the son of Jackie and Katina Shackleford of Hookerton, NC.

 

 

Will Crandell- Cross Country

    Senior, William Crandell won the Pride Award for the Greene Central Cross Country team at the Fall Athletic Banquet. Ram Pride awards are given to the athletes who show great amounts of school spirit, support their team, and put forth effort to take on leadership.
    “The most important thing about being on the cross country team is leadership and teamwork. Cross country can be an individual and a team sport.” said Crandell.
    “I feel so honored to be chosen for the pride award. I’ve been working hard since I’ve been in highschool and I believe that it’s an honor to receive this award.”
    “To all of the upcoming cross country players: If you don’t like running, cross country isn’t for you.” states Crandell.
    “I think that this cross country season went pretty well, considering we won a few races.” jokes Crandell.
    “My senior year is going great!! I’m really excited about graduating and being out on my own.” said Crandell.
    Crandell has been running Cross Country for 4 years and says he has “enjoyed every minute.”
    Crandell is currently enrolled in Civics and Economics, Allied 1, English 12, and Trade and Industry Advanced Studies.
    He enjoys playing baseball, running cross country, hunting and fishing.
    Crandell is the son of Charlie and Kelly Crandell of Hookerton.

 

 

Malcolm Dawson- Varsity Football

    Greene Central’s annual Fall athletic banquet took place on Monday December 13th, 2010.
    Athletes who participated in the following sports: varsity women’s tennis, junior varsity women’s tennis, varsity women’s volleyball, junior varsity women’s basketball, men’s cross country, women’s cross country, varsity football, junior varsity football, soccer, and cheerleading all attended the banquet accompanied by family and friends.     The event was well planned and guest enjoyed refreshments prepared by Greene Central students after the ceremony.
    Senior, Malcolm Dawson, was a member of the varsity football team for the 2010 Fall season.
    Dawson was awarded the title of defensive player of the year. Coach Grantham chose him for this honor because of his outstanding plays on the field.
    “I was surprised when I found out I won.” stated Dawson. “It was a compliment to my play, which is really important to me” he added.
    Dawson was also named an all conference award.
    When asked about the banquet Dawson replied with “the banquet was nice and the food was good.”
    "It was great to be able to spend time with my teammates again.”

    Dawson is the son of Ervin Dawson of Snow Hill and Loretta Bynum of New Jersey.        

 

 

Paige Chase- Varsity Vollyball

    Freshman Paige Chase won the "Team Before Self Award" for the Greene Central Junior Varsity/Varsity Volleyball Team at the Fall Athletic Banquet.
    The Team Before Self Award is given to a player that always does what is best for the team and puts the team first.
    “I really was surprised when I won this award,” said Chase, "It felt good to know I can be an inspiration to my fellow teammates.”     
   
    “High school Volleyball is so much different than at the Middle School. We have to learn new rotations and only certain people play certain positions. Its definitely more intense,” continued Chase.
    “I really want to continue with volleyball, hopefully I can get a scholarship to North Carolina State University or University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill,” says Chase
    “This year went by pretty well, I just like that I could actually get along with everyone,” Chase jokes.    
    “I like high school so far. All of my teachers are great and so are my classes” said Chase.
    Chase has played two years of volleyball in middle school and wants to continue in high school and hopefully in college. 
   
    She has also won the Coaches award in 8th grade.
    Chase is currently enrolled in Honors Earth Science, Algebra I, English 9, and Health/P.E.        
    She enjoys playing volleyball, softball, and spending time with her best friends.

 

 

Kaitlyn Napier- Varsity Vollyball

    Sophomore Kaitlyn Napier won the Volleyball All Conference award for the Greene Central Varsity Volleyball Team at the Fall Athletic Banquet.
    The All Conference award is an award given by the coaches in the conference who vote and decide that you make the conference better by playing.
    “It felt good to get this award I was very surprised," says Napier.     
    “This year was really good, I felt I had improved my skills very much compared to last year," continued Napier.
    “I definitely am going to continue throughout my high school career and hopefully to college,” says Napier, "I want to get a scholarship to East Carolina University."
    “My school year is going good, I'm stressing over my spanish exam though” states Napier.
    Napier played two years in middle school and this is her second year on the Varsity Volleyball team at Greene Central
    Napier is currently enrolled in Spanish I, Digital Media, Art, English 10.     
    She enjoys playing volleyball, softball, and spending time with her best friends.

 

 

Trey Hill- Varsity Football

    Greene Central’s annual Fall athletic banquet took place on Monday December 13th, 2010.
    Athletes who participated in the following sports: varsity women’s tennis, junior varsity women’s tennis, varsity women’s volleyball, junior varsity women’s basketball, men’s cross country, women’s cross country, varsity football, junior varsity football, soccer, and cheerleading all attended the banquet accompanied by family and friends.     The event was well planned and guest enjoyed refreshments prepared by Greene Central students after the ceremony. 

    Junior Trey Hill was a member of the varsity football team for the 2010 Fall season.
    Hill was awarded the Ram Pride Award and the 2nd Team All Conference award.
    Coach Grantham chose him for this honor due to his sense of pride for his coaches, his team, and himself on and off the field.
    “It felt good to win because have pride for what you do is important.” stated Hill.
    “Pride is being a good team player and doing what it takes to be your best.” he continued.
    Hill is the son of William Hill and Sharhonda Strong of Snow Hill.
